CMD (Costruzioni Motori Diesel), the Italy-based company is the company responsible for the production and marketing of the FNM marine diesel range throughout the world. It has been known in the marine industry for more than 15 years as a specialist in boat propulsion having all "tailored" propulsion solutions. The company emplys more than 80 people with 45% of its business deriving some 1000 marine diesels a year, mostly for marine applications. With the launch of a new range of marine engines based on FIAT blocks, FNM claims to offer lower weight and keep prices, which can be up to 30% less than its major competitors. The seven-model FNM range runs from 40HP to 250HP and is represented by compact and high-revving marine diesel engines. In short, it would be fair to say that the FNM marine diesel engine is a light-weight engine, which has a better weight/power ratio than competition. Also, the FNM engines, being very compact in dimensions, are able to replace even a petrol engine without major hull modifications. The engines are packaged with various drive systems, including Mercruiser Alpha and Bravo stern drives and Volvo Penta's systems. Fast-growing exports account for around 40 per cent of FNM 's marine engine sales. Dealers are in place in Finland, Norway, U.K., Denmark,Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic,New Zealand, Australia and Korea. We have recently started distribution networks in France, Germany, Greece and a few Eastern European countries. Thwe FNM range has been topped off in the late spring of 2005 by the new 225HP, five-cylinder 2.4 liter model, the HPEP 225 with Bravo One and Bravo three stern drive. This new engine model, like all of the FNM diesels, is clean running, virtually free of smoke and is quit too. The HPE series has been enlarged with a new model, the HPE 250, based on the 20-valve Common Rail Multijet version of the 2.4 liter engine. The commitment to quality has earned CMD the QS 9000 and ISO 14001 certifications.
